This is an urgent, pivotal time for historic preservation. From our nation's capital to communities across the country, historic places, and the laws that protect them, are under threat.

Proposed changes to the National Historic Preservation Act would leave historic places vulnerable and weaken the American public's voice in decisions about their future.

These are not isolated actions. Historic places carry identities, cultures, and memories that belong to all of us, not just the people who live in or near them. When they are threatened, so are the foundational stories of our nation.

The National Trust is the nation's historic preservation leader, congressionally chartered in 1949 to ensure the public has a voice in these decisions. But we have never done this work alone. Protecting our shared history takes all of us, advocating together.
