President Biden used his executive authority to create the Emmett Till and Mamie Till-Mobley National Monument, which includes Roberts Temple Church of God in Christ in Chicago, the Tallahatchie County Courthouse in Sumner, Mississippi, and the Graball Landing river site on the banks of the Tallahatchie River in Mississippi.
With this action from the president, we remember Emmett Till’s enduring life while also recognizing the bravery of his mother, Mamie Till Mobley, for her role in catalyzing the American Civil Rights Movement.
Please join us in thanking President Biden for this historic announcement—a significant next step in the ongoing work to ensure the sites tied to this history are preserved and interpreted—a continuing process toward equitably preserving and interpreting our nation’s historic sites.
