Urge Your Members of Congress to Protect and Reauthorize the Historic Preservation Fund!

Preservationists have long championed the Historic Preservation Fund (HPF), which provides funding for state and tribal historic preservation officers (SHPOs and THPOs) as well as several competitive grant programs aimed at preserving, documenting, and showcasing America’s diverse histories.

These programs address a wide range of preservation needs nationwide and support various types of work.

Each year, the HPF undergoes a lengthy funding process in Congress to determine its budget for the upcoming fiscal year. Additionally, federal programs like the HPF must be periodically reauthorized, allowing Congress to review, update, and adapt them to meet evolving needs and circumstances, ensuring they remain effective and relevant.

Since September 2022, the HPF has received one-year extensions for its authorization, but it needs to be fully reauthorized for a longer period.

Reach out to your members of Congress now to urge them to robustly fund and reauthorize the HPF in 2025!
