Speak Up for Federal Historic Preservation Investment
On January 5, 2026, Congress released the bipartisan, bicameral agreement for the FY 2026 Interior Appropriations bill, signaling a major win for historic preservation with $205.059 million for the Historic Preservation Fund—the highest level in the program’s history—along with a one-year authorization extension and near-level funding for the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation. This bill still needs to pass both the House and Senate before becoming law. However, with the current continuing resolution set to expire on January 30, Congress must act quickly to finalize appropriations and avoid a partial government shutdown that could disrupt National Park Service operations and HPF-supported grants.
Contact Congress today to urge swift action and underscore the importance of funding the HPF at the proposed $205.059 million level for FY 2026!
