Speak Up for Federal Historic Preservation Investment

The annual President’s Budget Request for the Historic Preservation Fund for FY 2026 would slash the HPF almost entirely — a devastating blow to the people and programs that safeguard our shared heritage. But the President’s Budget Request is just that: a request. The power to determine funding levels lies with Congress. Lawmakers are currently working through the appropriations process to determine annual funding levels for the many agencies and programs within the federal government, including the HPF. The HPF is the principal source of funding for SHPOs, THPOs, and competitive grant programs.

Congress needs to hear from you.

📢 Take Action Today. Encourage your members of Congress to robustly fund the HPF in FY 2026 to support preservation ahead of our nation’s 250th anniversary to tell the full American story.

We've made it easy — fill out your contact information below to identify your members in Congress. Then, you can send a customizable letter to your representatives now to urge them to do their part to preserve the full history of our nation and the many important stories that contribute to the American experience.
